A livery cab driver is in critical condition after a passenger allegedly stabbed him in the Bronx.

Police say 32-year-old Alex Acosta was dropping a passenger off around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Crotona Park South.

The passenger then allegedly pulled out a knife, stabbed him in the neck and shoulder, and took about $40.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers says the suspect was an illegal street hail.

The organization also says Acosta left his money out in the open where anyone could see and is lucky to be alive.

"Our advice to every driver that's out there is, when you're in neighborhoods that are fairly unsafe, don't pick up illegal street hails. Don't risk your life. It's not worth it," said Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.

Acosta is expected to survive.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
