New Yorkers batten down the hatches as the storm swirls through the area.

The city has been experiencing high wind gusts and steady downpours.

It also caused some flooding in coastal areas of Queens

Officials are urging everyone to stay alert and take the weather seriously.

Despite the conditions, residents we talked to don't seem too fazed.

"It is a lot of rain but it's really not the rain flooding the block, it's the tide," said one.

"Nothing out of the ordinary," said another. "It's just, you know, you see high tide, you see high tide. You see winds, you see winds. It just we didn't get as hard. When Sandy came Sandy was up to here on my house."

The steady rain and extreme winds have also been hammering parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island.
