NYPD officers helped save a young boy's life in the Bronx over the weekend.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 44th Precinct in Highbridge.

The NYPD says Officers Ariel Zaremba and George Lippi took action after a father ran to them with his 4-year old. Officials say the child wasn't breathing.

The officers performed CPR and called for backup.

Three additional officers stepped in, deciding to rush the boy to the hospital in a patrol car.

"I'm thinking the worst, that the baby could pass away, and I'm really trying to preserve this baby's life," Zaremba said. "Obviously, our job is to preserve lives and help the community, so that's what I wanted to do."

"I explained to him that I was a father myself and I completely understand what he was going through, and I was just happy to be there at the right time," said Sgt. Jason Isaia of the NYPD.

Hospital workers were able to resuscitate the boy.

It's not clear why he stopped breathing.
