A correction officer is in custody after he allegedly tried to smuggle synthetic marijuana into Rikers Island.

The Department of Investigation says 25-year-old Mohammed Sufian was found with more than 61 grams of the drug wrapped in black electrical tape in his socks.

Investigators also searched his home and say they found more than 120 grams of K2.

Officials say Sufian was paid $500 the night before being arrested and was supposed to get the rest of the money after delivering the drugs.

Suffian had worked as a probationary officer at Rikers since October 2014.

He is being charged with receiving a bribe and promoting prison contraband.

He faces up to eight years in prison.
