Mayor Bill de Blasio says he would like to see large businesses recycle organic waste.

He's proposed a regulation that would affect over 100 large scale hotels and sports complexes like Yankee Stadium and Barclays Center.

If adopted, the businesses would have to choose whether to have compost picked up or whether to deliver it themselves to a recycling facility.

The city currently composts about 50,000 tons a year, mostly from residential homes.

Under this proposal that number would nearly double.

Hearings on the expansion are set for the fall.
