Eight City Council members have set aside funds to install countdown clocks at bus stops in their districts.

The clocks use GPS technology to let riders know how far away their buses are in real time.

They'll be installed at locations in the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn after residents there voted for them as part of the participatory budgeting process.

The city is spending $1.2 million on the clocks, which provide updates that are also available through the MTA Bus Time app.

"We're hoping with this city funding, that the Department of Transportation will roll them out on more stops to see how popular these bus stop countdown clocks are," said Rebecca Bailin of Riders Alliance.

"It makes people feel more at ease," said one commuter. "At least they know something."

Some of the clocks are already in place on Staten Island and in Manhattan.
