A driver who hit and killed a Bronx mother last year has been found guilty of criminally negligent homicide.

Officials said 29-year-old Augustus Jenkins struck 32-year-old Nydja Herring in January of 2014.

She was crossing the street at East Tremont Avenue and Van Nest Avenue on the way to buy milk for her twin toddlers when she was hit.

Police said that Jenkins was speeding, driving with a suspended license and had alcohol in his system.

There were also two young children in the car at the time.

In a statement, Robert Johnson, the Bronx district attorney, said, "Not only were Nydja Herring's two 2-year-olds left without a mother, the victim’s own mother was scheduled to receive a kidney from her daughter. Herring's mother is still on the organ transplant list."

Jenkins could spend up to four years in prison.
