The Postal Service has sworn in the second-ever Hispanic woman to serve as Bronx Postmaster.

In a ceremony in Mott Haven yesterday, City Council members, Postal Service officials, and friends and family watched as Lilliam Rodriguez recited her oath of office.

Her appointment as postmaster is the latest chapter in a 35-year-career, starting as a clerk.

"It's an honor for me to be the postmaster of the Bronx, I am very happy, I am fortunate to be the second Hispanic, and that means a lot to me and my family, and I'm here for the community, to work for the community and do a great job," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez will now be in charge of over 1,500 Postal Service employees, and 45 facilities in the Bronx.
