Two iconic city properties are up for special recognition and preservation.

Williamsbridge Oval Park in the Bronx is among the state's 22 sites nominated to join the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

Oval Park opened in 1937 and was part of a rapid expansion of city parks, under famed urban planner Robert Moses.

The city's other nominee is the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center in Brooklyn.

The Center's Synagogue, a Bauhaus-influenced design, was completed in 1952. Combined with a community center finished ten years later, it was part of the era's “Jewish Center” movement.

State and national officials will now consider whether the two properties deserve unique historical status.
