Police are investigating after they say an 18-year-old Bronx man slashed his mother in the face and then started a fire that injured several responding officers.
It happened on the 13th floor of the Butler Houses on Webster Avenue.
Police say nine police officers were taken to area hospitals for smoke inhalation.
The 42-year-old woman was also taken to a hospital and treated for a cut. She is in stable condition.
Police say the man was arrested and taken to Lincoln Hospital for mental evaluation. Charges against him are pending.
