Days after Tuesday's storm, snow still covers one Bronx block. And as NY1’s Erin Clarke reports, folks in the area say this happens every winter and they want to know who is responsible for clearing the hazardous sidewalk.

Seeing snow on a block in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx is nothing new. Folks there say Friday morning's snowfall will just settle on top of what accumulated earlier in the week on the sidewalk of Albany Crescent and stay there.

"If snowing it is never clean. We need to go other side or in the street,” said one Bronxite.

The sidewalk is never cleared from Bailey Avenue to West 233rd, a stretch that briefly runs along the Major Deegan Expressway in Kingsbridge.

The only path is the one created by the footprints of those who trudge through the snow.

Residents say it's a hazard, especially when the snow turns to ice.

"Always there's people kind of slipping down,” said another resident.

"It's kind of slippery sometime,” added another.

At the end of the block it's a different story. The snow's been cleared and there's even still salt on the sidewalk.

These sidewalks are routinely cleared because the owners of the stores and apartments that line them are legally responsible to make sure they are safe and passable.

But there are no buildings along the side of Albany Crescent that is always packed with snow. So who is responsible?

"I think the city is supposed to send somebody over there,” said one nearby resident.

Although the Albany Crescent is owned by the state Department of Transportation, a spokesperson tells NY1 the agency isn't responsible for clearing snow, the city is.

A city DOT spokesperson would not acknowledge responsibility, but after being told about the hazard by NY1, he promised that a crew would soon address the problem.

With more snow forecast Sunday night and Monday, they might have to return again and again.
