The New York City Health Department says there has been a massive drop in teen pregnancies.

According to a new report, New York City has seen a decrease in teen pregnancies by 60 percent from the years 2000 to 2015.

The health commissioner attributes the reduction to expanded sexual health education programs.

The announcement comes just a few months after the federal government cut funding for the national Teen Pregnancy Prevention program.

State officials say the best way to prevent teen pregnancy is through education and making contraception readily available.
