All week long, our exclusive City Poll will be looking at what Bronx residents think about the city and their neighborhoods. In our first installment, we examine their opinions of the mayor, and while the majority approve of him, those numbers are heading down. NY1's Courtney Gross filed this report.

It's 'the boogie down Bronx,' the birthplace of hop hop and home of the Yankees—a borough that has come a long way.

"Well, I think the Bronx is up and coming. I think the Bronx has a lot of prospective development," said one resident.

"A lot of things going on in the Bronx. A lot of festivals, a lot of things that they have," another said.

There are accolades for the borough, sure, but the mayor—well, that depends.

"Ummm, that's another different story. I'm not even getting into that," said one person.

"Mother taught me if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all," another said.

"He sticks to his guns and he's open," another said.

In fact, our exclusive NY1/Baruch City Poll found the mayor's SAT score, a blend of his approval rating and satisfaction, is heading south—51 percent compared to 57 percent just a few months ago.

A majority of Bronx residents, 51 percent, approve of the job Mayor Bill de Blasio is doing, compared to 24 percent who disapprove. Twenty-two percent were uncertain.

Meanwhile, two-thirds are very or somewhat satisfied with city services. Twenty-one percent are somewhat satisfied or not satisfied at all.

"The mayor is doing OK. His approval rating is above 50 percent. Not too many people are ticked off at him. City services are perceived to be good. Where Bronxites are not happy is the direction of the city," said pollster Doug Muzzio.

Almost half of Bronx residents think the city is heading on the wrong track. Four in ten say it is headed in the right direction.

These opinions vary widely based on race.

We asked whether de Blasio was good for the Bronx, 68 percent of white adults said he was bad for the borough. Black and Hispanic adults said the opposite. Fifty-eight percent of black adults said he was good as did 54 percent of Hispanics.

All week long we will be taking a closer look at what residents here in the Bronx think of their own borough—from salsa to the Yankees—so stay tuned.
