Some of the biggest names on Broadway and beyond have a secret weapon when it comes to hitting the right notes night after night - a voice guru who has been fine tuning her own technique for 37 years. NY1's Arts and Culture reporter Stephanie Simon filed this report.

For more than 30 years, Liz Caplan has coached a who's who of Broadway, TV and film. It is an understatement to say they all sing her praises in notes around her studio and in person.

Ben Platt from the film “Pitch Perfect” and Broadway's “The Book of Mormon” says Liz has a remedy for any vocal challenge.

"She makes sure that no matter how often you’re singing, no matter how difficult the role, you’re singing it healthfully and singing it the same way every night. It's magic," he says.s

"To connect vocally with someone, you have to first connect in the heart," says Caplan.

Liz helped Allison Williams from HBO's “Girls” prepare for her starring role in “Peter Pan Live.”

"With Liz it's about specific sounds. It's about the larynx, keeping that low so that you can let as much sound as possible move through," says Williams.

Liz's technique is completely her own, often tailored to the demands of Broadway's eight shows a week schedule.

At least year's Tony awards, Neil Patrick Harris and James Monroe Iglehart both thanked Liz during their acceptance speeches for their phenomenal performances in “Aladdin” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”

"To have my name spoken on the Tony Awards was basically feeling like I'd won a Tony award myself," says Caplan.

After studying voice in college, other singers asked her for advice so often she made it her profession.

"Take a deep breath into your mouth." Liz insists anyone can sing so with that in mind.
