ORLANDO, Fla. -- The heat stayed on full blast Friday afternoon with highs in the 90s and heat index temperatures over 100 degrees.

We had a few showers and storms develop early in the afternoon and then scattered activity later in the day.

A similar setup is in store for the weekend with hot temperatures and afternoon storms. Some of the storms could be strong with gusty wind and frequent lightning.

There may be a few lingering showers early tonight, then quiet heading into Saturday morning. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with temperatures falling into the mid-70s.

Partly sunny skies will start both Saturday and Sunday as temperatures heat up fast. High will remain in the mid to low 90s with the high humidity making it feel more like triple digits.

There will be about a 50 percent chance for afternoon showers and storms both days with the potential for a few stronger storms. Watch for developing activity if planning on being outside.

In Volusia County, Beach Safety officials treated 111 jellyfish stings Friday, though none resulted in any major injuries.

If heading to the beach or out on the boat, ocean conditions will be favorable this weekend. The biggest concerns are afternoon storms and the high UV index.

TROPICAL UPDATE

As we move through the later part of June, it remains quiet in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the open waters of the Atlantic.

No major activity is expected over the next 5 days.
