A high pressure system off to our southwest gave the Big Apple bright sunshine and hot conditions on Sunday, and temperatures topped the 90-degree mark for the first time this month. If we reach the 90-degree mark again on Monday and Tuesday, we will have the second OFFICIAL heat wave of the Summer. A heat wave is defined as a minimum of three consecutive days where temperatures reach at least 90 degrees.

Hotter and more humid conditions are in store for Monday, and the heat is expected to stay in place through at least Wednesday. Heat advisories and air quality alerts are already in effect throughout the area, and more are possible over the next few days. During this time, heat index values between 95 and 100 degrees are possible, so, be sure to take it slow, get into an air-conditioned building, keep hydrated, and check on family members, neighbors, and pets.

A few showers and storms could bring some temporary relief on Tuesday and Wednesday, but, we won't see a real break in the heat until later in the week.

LAST HEAT WAVE: JUNE 30-JULY 3, 2018

June 30:  93

July 1:  96

July 2:  95

July 3:  92
