Some major staff changes within the MTA as the troubled transit agency deals with a crisis in the city's subway system.

Sources say Pat Foye will serve in a senior leadership position.

He was the executive director of the Port Authority since 2011, and was previously an MTA board member.

Foye would be filling the spot vacated by former president Tom Prendergast, and will report directly to new agency chairman Joe Lhota.

Transit advocates applauded the move.

"Pat Foye stepping into this role now suggests pretty strongly that, you know, folks are saying, 'The MTA really needs a turnaround right now.' And I think that's what we're beginning to see with these new appointments in Lhota and Foye."

Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for the MTA after a series of delays and derailments.

Lhota unveiled a multibillion-dollar action plan last month designed to tackle the issues.

Meantime, the Port Authority is also switching up its leadership, tapping Kevin O'Toole as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
