Some straphangers may not be surprised, but overcrowding and delays are getting worse in the subway system.

According to newly released figures, there were more than 58,000 delays on weekdays in April, with more than 23,000 coming from overcrowding. That's over 8,000 more delays from last year.

Those numbers have gone up in every April since 2012, when there were just under 22,000 delays.

Delays also went up on weekends, but those were mostly because of track work than to overcrowding.

Total ridership for April was nearly 194 million, which is a slight decrease from 2016.
