A new project from the developers of the Transit app hopes to pinpoint the location of individual subway trains within the NYC transit system - but it requires the help of its users.

The Transit app is now offering real-time data for all lettered lines and the 7 train.

According to a blog for the app, the real-time data will be collected through a crowdsourcing process.

Users who download the app pick their trip and hit "GO" in the app, according to the blog post. The app will automatically detect when their specific train has left a station, and will use that data to make departure predictions down the rest of the line.

The app says it will be able to predict routes on the A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, M, N, Q, R, W, 7 and Z lines.

According to the blog, the app also has a system in place in an effort to offer reliable weekend transit trip suggestions.
