On the heels of the Long Island Rail Road crash in Brooklyn, the MTA says it is widening its sleep apnea program.

Pending board approval, it would now include nearly 20,000 workers with the LIRR, New York City Transit trains and buses, and the MTA Bus company.

It would include offering priority, specialized treatment to those diagnosed.

Earlier this month, a Long Island Rail Road train derailed at Atlantic Terminal. Dozens were injured.

Investigators say the conductor did not recall the moment of the accident. He is currently undergoing testing for the illness.

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which a patient's breathing repeatedly stops, hundreds of times, while sleeping.

It results in insufficient sleep and reduced alertness during the day.
