The union representing transit workers is taking the MTA to court over an ad that was rejected from being displayed in subway stations for being "political in nature."
Transport Workers Union Local 100 wanted to post this ad at more than 100 stops. It shows transit workers who have been injured on the job.
"Now the union, which is seeking a new contract for more than 30 thousand employees, is suing the MTA in Federal Court," said one worker at a weekend rally. "The MTA last year banned ads that express political messages.
The union contends its ad isn't political.
"It's the American way to let us get our message out," said John Samuelsen, TWU Local 100 President. "You know, what's the TA afraid of? Two hundred and fifty transit workers get assaulted a year, it shouldn't be a secret. The riding public has a right to know."
The MTA declined comment on the lawsuit, referring NY1 instead to a November statement that said the ad violates its standards for advertisements.
