A new study praises the MTA for its experimental countdown clock program on lettered subway lines.

The Riders Alliance says the technology is largely accurate and very useful to straphangers.

The MTA launched the program on select N, Q, and R trains this past August and plans to expand to every lettered line station by 2018.

According to the study, the countdown clocks were accurate within two minutes of the train's arrival more than 80 percent of the time.

However, those numbers are still considerably worse than numbered line countdown clocks, which use different technology.

As part of the report, the Riders Alliance listed some recommendations for the MTA.

The group says the agency should introduce web functionality to allow riders access to real-time train information from smartphones and the Internet.

It also wants the MTA to make the arrival information available to app developers, and integrate the data to its existing "On the Go" Kiosks.
