It's going to get easier for Rockaway residents to catch a ferry when citywide service launches next year.

The Queens neighborhood is getting free shuttle buses that will connect to the upcoming ferry terminal at Beach 108th Street.

The route will cover four miles, spanning from Beach 35th Street to Beach 169th Street.

The Rockaway ferry route is slated to get residents to Lower Manhattan within an hour.

The city says it's part of an effort to provide more affordable transit options to underserved communities.

"What's terrific, we think about this service, is that it allows us to make sure that citywide ferry is available to the greatest number of people," said Maria Torres-Springer of the NYC Economic Development Corporation. "We wanted to make sure that the shuttle routes, but the really, the entire citywide ferry system is one that reflects the actual needs of residents on the ground."

The cost of a one-way ferry trip will be $2.75, the same price as a subway ride.

Service for Astoria, south Brooklyn and the Rockaways will set sail next summer.

Routes from the Lower East Side and the Soundview section of the Bronx will start in 2018.
