The MTA is breaking out the brooms over the next two weeks.

A new program called "Operation Track Sweep" begins today as the agency looks to remove trash from the tracks around the entire subway system.

More than 500 workers will clean up the tracks at all of 469 stations.

Cleanup work at underground stations will mostly be done at night.

Outdoor and elevated trains will be cleaned during the day.

The MTA says cleaner tracks mean fewer track fires and service delays.

The agency has also ordered three new vacuum trains like these to help keep the system clean.

The first two trains are set to arrive next year.
