More than 124 million people flew in and out of New York and New Jersey airports in 2015, according to the Global Gateway Alliance.
The group says passenger traffic increased by a record 7 million people last year.
Officials are calling for new technology at airports to improve traffic flow.
The alliance says airports are operating over capacity, calling JFK, LaGuardia and Newark the most congested in the nation.
