If you have ever had to avoid walking on subway grates because you're wearing high heels, the MTA has made at least one spot in the city safe.

The agency unveiled new heel-friendly sidewalk grates Monday while announcing the completion of two contracts on the East Side Access megaproject.

The grates will be located above the East 55th Street ventilation facility between Madison and Park Avenue.

They will be equipped with slip-resistant surfaces, and the openings between the cross bars of the grates will only be half an inch wide.
