A transportation union chief says the MTA should handle things differently the next time there's a snowstorm.

There's been second-guessing about whether it was right to shut down the entire system during this week's storm, as the city got less snow than predicted.

"Moving forward, we intend to productively engage the MTA regarding the union's ideas on how to run aspects of the system that are protected by blizzard, namely underground subway train lines, even under blizzard conditions," said John Samuelsen, president of Transport Workers Union Local 100. "It simply makes sense to do that."

Samuelsen says it will be easier to restart the system after a storm when some trains are already running.

He also says MTA workers will not be in danger if underground trains stay in service during snowstorms.
