ROCHESTER N.Y. — One church invited local leaders and community members to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King is recognized for service and the fight for human rights during the fifth annual MLK celebration held 4 p.m. Sunday at the Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Church.

The gathering highlights his legacy, as well as movement towards justice in the community. This year’s theme is "Build, Raise, Repair: A Movement for Justice." Organizers say that each year the program's theme is based off of a message that resonates with community.

“We’re giving a message of hope and saying that it is incumbent upon all of us to work together in order to rebuild our community, to repair our community and bring hope to everyone in our country and also in the world,” says Rev. Lewis W. Stewart of the United Christian Leadership Ministry of Western New York, Inc.

The celebration also recognizes local leaders and civil rights activists for their commitment to serving in their communities.
