BUFFALO, N.Y. — Three homes were damaged by fire in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood early Friday morning, displacing 16 people from five families.

The initial call came in around 3:45 a.m. for a fire at 73 Peter Street. The fire spread to two other homes.

Crews say power lines also caught on fire. National Grid turned off power to the lines so firefighters could continue battling the blaze.

At least one firefighter was injured.

“He was hit with fallen debris,” said Buffalo Fire Deputy Commissioner Jonathan Eaton. “He was in the driveway and the chimney collapsed and he got hit by some debris so it’s minor injuries. He’s expected to recover.”

It took about three hours for the fire to be extinguished. Damage to the homes is estimated at $200,000.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the families.

The fire is still under investigation.
