Radiation blocking underwear? Check. Internet connected hearing aid? Check. If you’ve ever thought, "You know what someone should invent?" there’s a good chance someone has, and you’ll find it at the annual Consumer Electronics Show — or CES — at the beginning of each year in Las Vegas.

And to get us pumped about the news that’ll be emerging from it this year, "CES Unveiled" is a very small preview event with teases like the Smart Remote by Sevenhugs that allows you to control just about anything in your increasingly smart home simply by pointing the unit at it.

"You can see on the screen when you point it at the TV or your speaker or your lights it actually shows you a screen to control that device," said Matthew Brown of Sevenhugs. "So if you’re pointing at your lights you control the color, the brightness, if you swing around and point at your speaker you can then control what track you’re playing as well as adjust the volume."

HiMirror is a mirror that analyzes your skin. Every time you look into it, it offers you a skin care plan. The Snoo basinet automatically starts to rock when it hears the baby cry. And Nurugo is a UV-detecting camera that attaches to your phone and allows you to see how well you’re applying sunscreen and whether it’s still on after a good swim or sweat.

"The UV light normally you can see reflecting from your skin, when you put the sunscreen on its blocking it, it’s absorbing it, so it’s showing the black image on your face," said Cory Bellamy of Nurugo.

And incidentally, CES isn’t all quirky gadget unveils. We will also learn about more mainstream innovations in areas like computers, TVs, home entertainment and cars.
