In this Tech Talk report, Time Warner Cable News’ Adam Balkin checks out VRTIFY, a virtual reality app for music lovers.

This could be a game changer for those of you who think this big wave of virtual reality is all about games. VRTIFY is, instead, all about music, in three ways. The first - perhaps the most exciting - concerts.  If you cannot be there for real, being there virtually from your home is a good plan B.

“Typically we have three kinds of cameras,” says Facundo Diaz of VRTIFY. “We have long range cameras, so we put that camera not so near the stage. We have small cameras that we use put to put right there on the stage, and we also have another camera backstage or in VIP."

The app also lets you listen to your music - either music that’s stored on your device or music from streaming services like Spotify - while experiencing an appropriate VR scene, from sky diving to race car driving to surfing.  You can, or artists can, also create your own VR videos and upload them for the entire VRTIFY community.

Developers say this isn’t just 360 degree video of concerts but also 360 degree audio.

“If you move your head in some direction you will hear what is happening in that direction and it’s like you really are there,” Diaz says.

VRTIFY developers say the app will work on all VR systems from those that use your phone to stand alone like the Oculus or Playstation VR. It is set to launch later this year.
