The Mets traded outfielder Jay Bruce to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Bruce was hitting .258 this season with 29 homes runs and an .847 OPS.

New York had acquired the longtime Cincinnati Red last year, but he struggled to hit immediately.

This year, however, Bruce was the Mets' best hitter after fellow outfielder Michael Conforto.

But with New York more than ten games back of a playoff berth and looking toward 2018, the Mets placed Bruce on waivers earlier this week.

Ryan, who the Indians drafted in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, has a 4.79 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 33 games for Cleveland's A class team.
