The Mets say they will have additional protective netting at Citi Field after calls to improve safety for fans.
The 30-foot-high netting behind home plate will be expanded beyond the dugouts to the end of the infield, and eight-foot high netting will extend into the outfield.
The expansion will more than triple the square footage of the existing netting.
The team says the state-of-the-art netting increases transparency and is 97 percent invisible.
Officials say it will be installed by the end of the All-Star Break next month.
City Councilman Raul Espinal, who introduced a bill requiring Citi Field and Yankee Stadium to increase netting, praised the Mets' decision.
In a statement, he says his office is still in discussions with the Yankees.
