PHILADELPHIA - The Jets went for defense and the Giants went for offense in the NFL draft.

With the sixth pick, the Jets selected Jamal Adams, a safety from LSU.

In his three college seasons, he had five interceptions and 127 tackles.

He is the son of former Giants running back George Adams, who was their first-round pick in 1985.

With the 23rd pick, the Giants took tight end Evan Engram from Mississippi, the same school Eli Manning went to.

Last year, Engram had 65 catches for 926 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns had the first overall pick and selected defensive end Myles Garrett of Texas A&M.

The second and third rounds of the draft will be Friday.

Rounds 4 through 7 are on Saturday.
