The Mets were involved in an emotional game of baseball Monday night, as they played the Miami Marlins in their first game since the death of their teammate Jose Fernandez.

Every player on the Marlins wore Fernandez's jersey for the game.

The team owner said no Marlin will ever wear his number 16 again.

The 24-year-old Fernandez died in a boating accident Sunday morning.

Some of the players on both sides could be seen crying during a pre-game ceremony.

After the national anthem, the Mets and Marlins player met on the field to exchange hugs.

Fellow Cuban Yoenis Céspedes was perhaps the most emotional Met.

The Marlins also gathered on the mound and carved Fernandez's number and initials in the dirt.

As for the game, the Marlins beat the Mets 7-3.

After the final out, the Marlins team gathered again in a circle around the mound for a prayer.

Then, each player left their cap on the mound as they left the field.
