Former Mets catcher Mike Piazza received another big honor Saturday, as the team retired his number.

The Mets retired Piazza's number 31in a pre-game ceremony at Citi Field.

Piazza is just the second Met player, along with Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, to have his number retired.

Managers Gil Hodges and Casey Stengel also received the honor.

Piazza played for New York from 1998 to 2005 and helped the Mets reach the World Series against the Yankees in 2000.

Piazza ranks third on the Mets' all-time lists for home runs and RBIs. He also holds the record for most home runs ever hit by a catcher, with 396.

Piazza said having his number retired means he will always be with the Mets and their fans.

"Every time these guys are down and you need a little bit of inspiration, just give a little peek up there to Ol' Mikey and know that I'm back home watching you guys on TV, saying a lot of prayers, praying for the Mets," Piazza said to the Citi Field crowd Saturday.

Last week, Piazza was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
