Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday endorsed Mayor Bill de Blasio for re-election.

Speaking on "The Brian Lehrer Show," Cuomo said the mayor has his support in the upcoming general election.

The two Democrats have been in an ongoing feud, most recently over how to fix the city's ailing subway system.

Cuomo previously refused to endorse his rival, but finally made the decision after the mayor won last week's Democratic primary.

"I am a Democrat, I support Democrats, and I'll support Mayor de Blasio in the general," Cuomo said in a phone interview with Brian Lehrer. "I think in this contest — you know, life is options, they say, right? I think in this contest, he is the better person to serve the city of New York as mayor, period."

De Blasio will face off against Republican and Staten Island Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis in the general election on Nov. 7.

The last day to register to vote in general election in-person or by mail is Oct. 13.

NY1 and its co-sponsors, WNYC, POLITICO, Citizens Union, Civic Hall, Intelligence Squared, and the Latino Leadership Institute will host the first general election debate Oct. 10, with a live audience at Symphony Space on the Upper West Side.

As we get closer to that date, we will ask viewers at home what questions they want us to ask the candidates.
