The Congressional Budget Office says 22 million more people are projected to be uninsured by 2026 under the Senate Republican health care proposal.

It's the latest hurdle in Republicans' efforts to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act.

The numbers are slightly better than the 23 million projected to be uninsured under the House bill that was passed last month.

The Senate bill faces opposition from Democrats and some Republicans.

If passed, it would roll back many Obama-era provisions.

The Republican-led bill aims to lower premiums and eliminate the so-called individual mandate that pressures people to buy insurance by imposing a tax penalty on those who decide not to.

GOP leaders say they hope to pass a bill later this week.
