Mayor Bill de Blasio got a victory in his effort to open new homeless shelters across the city.
The mayor says a shelter in Crown Heights has opened its doors.
Earlier this year, residents sued the city seeking to block the shelter at Bergen Street and New York Avenue. They say homeless shelters already saturate their community.
But a judge ordered it to be open, but limited to men aged 62 and older.
In his "Mondays with the Mayor" segment on the Road to City Hall, the mayor said this will advance his plan to build 90 more shelters.
"The agreement that was reached with the judge and the community is a good sign for our ability to keep moving forward (with) our plan," de Blasio said. "So this is the fifth shelter since I made the announcement, and we'll continue building out throughout the summer. I don't have the exact number of how many will be done this summer, but there will be steady growth of the plan over the next couple of years."
The law office handling the residents' suit declined to comment.
