A judge has issued a ruling in NY1's favor, as part of our long fight to access the city's police body camera video.

A state supreme court judge ordered the NYPD to hand over body camera footage that NY1 requested, as long as it is not exempt under the state's freedom of information law.

We filed a freedom of information law request two years ago to review body camera footage from the department's body camera pilot program. The NYPD has claimed the video is too difficult to redact to protect people's privacy.

On Thursday, the judge said the NYPD now has to review all 190 hours-worth of video we requested and give us the footage that is not exempt.

In response to this decision, a spokesman for the law department told us it is reviewing the decision with the NYPD and evaluating next steps.
