Prosecutors say they will not pursue a criminal misconduct case against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the so-called Bridgegate scandal.

This comes months after two former allies to Christie, Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni, were convicted for shutting down access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in 2013 as an act of political retaliation.

Prosecutors said the move was meant to punish Fort Lee's Democratic mayor for not endorsing the Republican governor during his re-election bid.

Kelly and Baroni testified that they thought the lane closure was part of a legitimate traffic study.

Prosecutors say the state does not believe it can prove Christie broke the law.

Christie's office said it is glad the "baseless fiasco" has ended.
