A former Port Authority official is accusing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of playing a role in trying to cover up the now-infamous scheme to close lanes at the George Washington Bridge.

David Wildstein testified in court that Cuomo and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie agreed to falsely explain the lane closures as part of a traffic study.

Wildstein says the two discussed releasing a report that would cool down rumors of a scandal.

That report was never published and Cuomo's office is strongly denying the allegation, saying in a statement:

"To be clear, no such conversation between the governors happened, in fact no report of any kind was ever done, and whatever the admitted Bridgegate architect thought or dreamt about New York’s involvement has no basis in fact."

Wildstein pleaded guilty to participating in the scheme which was allegedly done out of political payback to a New Jersey mayor who declined to endorse Christie's 2013 re-election bid.

Christie's former Chief of Staff and a former Port Authority deputy executive director are on trial, facing criminal charges for allegedly masterminding the plan.

Christie himself has not been charged with any formal wrongdoing.
