WINSTON-SALEM – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump spoke Monday night in Winston-Salem. The businessman was joined by vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, Gov. Pat McCrory and other top North Carolina Republicans.

Trump said he looks to finish strong in North Carolina, promising to make better deals that bring jobs back to the state.

“We’re tired of being a country where our jobs are being taken away. We’re tired of being the country where our military is being depleted. We’re tired of being the country where we can’t make good trade deals anymore," he said.

Trump touted a successful RNC last week and pointed to the rocky start to the Democratic National Convention, which got underway Monday.

The Republican nominee talked about a lot about trade issues and how his passion to improve the system could draw Bernie Sanders supporters who may be disenfranchised with the Democratic Party. He also slammed Hillary Clinton throughout his speech, saying she has bad judgment.

Clinton, he says, went against the hopes of Sanders and his supporters by choosing Virgina Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate.

"Almost 50 percent of those people want not what he wants," said Trump. "And she picks somebody that's wrong."

Trump said he’s seen a bump from last week’s convention and is now leading in some polls.

Trump on Tuesday will head to Charlotte, where he's slated to speak at the National Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention. Clinton spoke at that event Monday. The Republican nominee said he plans to return to North Carolina as we get closer to Election Day.
