sixtySenator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling on Congress to take aggressive steps to address alleged sexual assault in the military.

Gillibrand was joined by a bipartisan group of Senators and a sexual assault victims to re-introduce a bill that would change how the military reacts to sexual assault reports.

Supporters of the bill want cases to go through independent military prosecutors.

An earlier bill failed to get enough support to pass, but Gillibrand says it's time for Congress to take up a second vote.

"We know far more now about the extent of the military sexual assault problem than we did a year ago," Gillibrand said. "And it’s clear that nothing has changed, despite the military’s claims that things are getting better."

Gillibrand says she's working to secure the sixty votes the bill needs to pass.

Fifty senators supported the previous bill.
