Mayor Bill de Blasio says he's on track to reach his affordable housing goals.
The mayor's plan is to construct or preserve 200,000 apartments over the next 10 years. Since he took office, he says his administration has crossed the 40,000 unit mark. That's enough for 100,000 New Yorkers.
More than 21,000 apartments were financed in 2015 alone.
"A grand total of apartments for 2015 is 21,041 apartments, and that is the highest annual total for the city of New York in a quarter century, 25 years. Congratulations to all of you," de Blasio said.
The mayor's announcement comes as he lobbies City Council and the City Planning Commission to approve key elements of his affordable housing plan.
The vote at the Planning Commission will happen in early February.
