It is officially Tony time in New York City.

On Tuesday, the Tony Awards nominations of the 2022-2023 Broadway season were announced.

The celebrated nominees from the 2022-2023 Broadway season came together Thursday to talk about their nominations.

Here are some edited excerpts of the “On Stage” team’s conversations with some of the nominees.

Wendell Pierce: “A dream I didn’t even know, knew that I had, right until it happened. And I realized this is a dream come true.”

Alex Newell: “Being a Tony nominee is crazy. It’s crazy. I wanted this my entire life. I’ve been watching the Tonys my entire life. This is crazy. And to be at the Met Gala on a Monday night and then Tony nominated on a Tuesday morning is stupid. No one should have that amount of good luck.”

Sean Hayes: “It’s just the most rewarding thing, whatever happens. To realize a dream and have it come to fruition on stage after all of these years, it’s just a testament that if you believe in something, just see it through all the way to the end, no matter what the outcome is.”

Audra McDonald: “So to be recognized is overwhelming and also to be the first show in the James Earl Jones Theatre is also just an incredible honor. We felt the history of that moment.”

Sara Bareilles: “I mean, if I could bring my dog, Louie, I would. But he’s too big. But he’s like a little security blanket.”

Ben Platt: “My best friend Beanie Feldstein gave me cufflinks for my birthday in 2016, and they said, there was a note that said, for when you win your first Tony. And so I wore them to my first Tony Awards in 2017, and I’ll certainly be wearing them again.”

Jodie Comer: “I’m going to bring my brother as my date. I’m going to get him over here from, from Liverpool. And I feel like my brother is kind of my good luck charm.”

Jessica Chastain: “From theater nerd to theater nerd, I was a kid who didn’t really have a lot of like, joy. And it wasn’t until I found my people that, that happened and that was the theater community.”

Josh Groban: "The wonderful thing about this is that, you know, yeah, technically we’re all on the list together, but the amount of hugs, the amount of excitement that whoever wins, whoever gets nominated, we’re excited to be a commercial for what theater means to people.”

The 76th Annual Tony Awards are set for June 11 at the United Palace Theatre.
