It's a Broadway family affair - as some of musical theater's best gear up to take on the first ever revival of "Falsettos."

The musical originally appeared in two different parts off-Broadway - first in 1981, and then in 1990. It then opened at the Golden Theatre in 1992, and won Tony Awards for Best Book and Score. Co-creators James Lapine and William Finn return to the project for this revival.

"Producers have wanted different casts from me, and finally when we agreed on the cast that's when we were able to go forward," Finn says.

The show centers around Marvin and his modern family of sorts, including his lover, his ex-wife, their son and others.

Two-time Tony winning actor Christian Borle takes on the role of Marvin.

"It's about family and it's about people struggling to create a new definition of family," Borle says.

Tony nominees Stephanie J. Block and Andrew Rannells take on Marvin's ex-wife and current lover - Trina and Whizzer.

"You fall in love with these characters - regardless of time period," Block says. "The fractured family, sad enough, but it happens in the 70s, 80s, present day. But you're rooting for these people."

"As much as it was written a couple decades ago, I think it's a very timely show and it doesn't really feel like a period piece to me at all," Rannells says.

You can catch this musical theater family in "Falsettos" on Broadway beginning on September 29th.
