It's a choir made up of some of the finest vocalists on Broadway - and the group is currently in rehearsal for a concert - that is set to take place later this month. NY1’s Frank DiLella has the story on the Broadway Inspirational Voices.

Listening to these voices live and in the flesh can take you to heaven and back.

The group known as the Broadway Inspirational Voices features some of the most talented vocalists from the New York theater community.

The choir was formed by performer Michael McElroy in 1994 at the height of the AIDS crisis.

"Because I grew up in church and I knew how much that music meant to me, and kind of helped me get through this time in our, this period of time where we were losing so many of our fellow actors and singers and dancers and producers,” McElroy says.

The group is currently in rehearsal for an upcoming concert titled "Inspirational Broadway,” and it will be just that - Broadway with a gospel flair.

"We're going to get a little bit of Sondheim, a little Jason Robert Brown, a little Jeanine Tesori," McElroy says.

Expect to see some familiar Broadway faces on stage as well. Folks scheduled to solo with the choir include Hamilton's Renee Elise Goldsberry, Tony winner Billy Porter and actor Telly Leung, currently starring in "Allegiance."

"I'm doing a tune with Renee Elise Goldsberry from 'Hamilton,'” Leung says. “She was also in the final company of 'Rent', and it's going to be a little bit of a 'Rent' reunion, but she's going to be singing 'Oh What A Beautiful Morning.'"

Telly and company won't just be singing for their supper. In fact, it goes far beyond that.

The event will raise money to bring music programs to under-served communities in the city.

"A lot of us are where we are, pursuing these wonderful careers that we have, because there were mentors or teachers or someone in our past who said 'You have something and I want to help you nuture it and celebrate it.' So it's essential that we give back," McElroy says.

"Inspirational Broadway" is set to take place at BB Kings on February 15.
