Political Reporter Bobby Cuza joined the political team in August 2009 after more than six years as NY1’s Transit reporter.
During that time, Cuza broke a number of high-profile stories, from exposing major gaps in railyard security to revealing the failure of plans for wireless access in the subways.
He was the first journalist to break the news that transit workers were going on strike in December 2005. Later, he earned a New York Press Club award for his stories about the police unlawfully suppressing photography in the transit system.
Cuza also launched the popular weekend program “In Transit,” a news-and-interview show he hosted from 2004 to 2009 –modeled after a similar NY1 segment that aired in the 1990s called “The Straphangers Report.”
Prior to joining NY1 in January 2003, Cuza spent two years as a reporter in Newsday’s city bureau. He also worked as a metro reporter at the Los Angeles Times.
Cuza earned a B.A. in philosophy from Stanford University. He is a native of Manhattan Beach, California.
