Some Chelsea residents turned to NY1 for You to help them clean up a growing mess on their block. Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 for You report.

Residents on West 15th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues wondered why a pile of junk that they say has been sitting in front of a vacant lot for months has not been picked up yet.

"It's unsightly," said Sean Moore, who lives on the block.

"Overall, it's a pretty nice street, so this one corner kind of being abandoned, I don't really know why it hasn't been picked up yet," said Austeja Makoveckaite, who lives next door.

Those who live next door say it started with a couple of Christmas trees and grew to a huge pile with everything from TVs to a couch.

"I think people just assume that since all this trash has been there so long, they're like, 'All right, this is the trash spot,' so they just put their stuff there," Makoveckaite said.

"Nothing's been said. Nothing's been done. There's nothing posted on the walls," Moore said. "So it's just been here, and it continues to be here."

After neighbors contacted NY1 for You, the station found the owner of the vacant lot where the trash is piling up. We reached out to EBB Realty for comment but haven't heard back. In the meantime, NY1 for You called the Department of Sanitation, and a crew was sent out to remove the debris and trash. The department also issued a summons to EBB, and a spokeswoman told us Sanitation will continue to monitor the location and take appropriate action as warranted.

Relief to neighbors who now have a much better view.
